NAVAL OFFICER REPORTED MISSING
Lieut. Radcliffe Was in Pacific
Lieut. Melvin Radcliffe, a naval officer from Reno, is listed as missing, according to word received here last night from the navy department. He had been on duty in the Pacific, but definite word as to his location had not been received in recent weeks.
Member of a widely-known Reno family, Lieutenant Radcliffe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Radcliffe. His wife and twin children also live here. He is a graduate of the naval academy at Annapolis. He last visited Reno in 1939.

An excerpt from an article detailing his brother, Dorrance Radcliffe's promotion to lieutenant colonel, from the Reno Evening Gazette, Thursday, August 31, 1944:
A brother, Lt. Com. Melvin Radcliffe of the navy, also an Annapolis graduate, was declared missing in April, 1942. His wife, Mrs. Gloria Radcliife of Reno, received official notification that he had been declared dead a year later in June, 1943.
He was serving in the Pacific at the beginning of the war, and Mrs. Radcliffe has since received the purple heart awarded him.

MELVIN RADCLIFFE NAVAL ALTERNATE
Melvin Radcliffe, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Radcliffe of 128 West Fourth Street and recent Reno High School graduate, has been offered an alternate appointment to Annapolis, according to word from congressman Samuel Arentz.
Radcliffe represented Reno High School in the recent Thomas A. Edison contest, in which a youth from American schools will be selected to work in the Edison laboratories at Orange, New Jersey.
