Georgia C. Brown (nee Calhoun), 84, of Gurnee, passed on to be with the Lord on November 13th at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, Illinois. She was born July 25, 1925 in Waukegan. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan. At the age of 9, she suffered from Scarlet Fever which disabled her hearing for the remainder of her life. It was at this epiphany that she decided she wanted to become a registered nurse and assist those in need. She graduated from Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing and was a registered nurse for over 50 years. She practiced in private duty nursing as well as working through many of the hospitals in Lake and Cook Counties in Illinois. She was retired from Victory Memorial Hospital and worked 10 more years on the float pool for Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Calhoun; her ex-husband, Mr. Carl Brown; by two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Lewis and Mrs. Margaret Denis. She is survived by her sister, Ms. Elsie N. Calhoun; one daughter, Mrs. Pamela (William) Tippett of Gurnee; four grandchildren, Thomas Brown of Waukegan, Mrs. Jessica (Daniel) Merrell of Wildwood, Christine Brandal of Gurnee and William Tippett Jr. of Gurnee. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, IL, with Reverend Roberts officiating. Internment will be at North Shore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL.
