Bertha Scott Adams Porter was born July 16, 1913 in Roll, Oklahoma to Lillie May and A.C. Scott. She passed away March 17, 2006 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Bertha grew up in Roll and attended Breezy Meadow schools and graduated from Strong City High School. After high school she attended Clinton Nursing School and became an LPN working for Clinton Regional Hospital. In the early 30's she was married to Ellis Adams. In 1962 Bertha moved to Canadian, TX going to work for Hemphill County Hospital until her retirement in 1975. In 1964 she was married to Buster Porter and they made their home in Canadian, TX. In 1986 after Buster passed away Bertha moved to Elk City to be with her daughter.
Bertha enjoyed cooking, fishing and camping, reading and crocheting. She also attended Prairie View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ellis Adams, her second husband, Buster Porter, parents, 1 son Dean Adams, 1 grandson, Donnie Summit, 1 son-in-law, Eddie Summit, 2 step-sons, George Perrin and Bobby Porter, 3 brothers, Francis, Oral and Clayton Scott, 3 sisters, Olive McClellan, Rose Aumond and Ruth Reust.
Survived by her 3 sons, George and Sandra Adams, Austin, Tx and Nolan and Yvonne Adams, Okemah, OK; and Eddie Joe and Joan Adams, Farmington, CA; 2 daughters, Marie and Bob Wilson, Elk City, OK; and Roberta and Charles Hardin, Elk City, OK; 2 daughters-in-law, Maxine Adams, Louisville, TX; and Nova Adams, Amarillo, TX; stepson, Michael Porter, Beuna Vista, TX; 8 step daughters, Ida Swanson, and Peggy Miller, and Mary Joe Languell, and Donna Harrel, and Debbie Clark, and Polly Chaffin, and Dianne Hornsby, and Marcia Back, 24 grandchildren, 49 great grandchilderen, 1 sister Zola Sprowls, San Antonio, TX; and a host of other step grandchilddren, relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, March 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Michael Larsen. Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
