After a brief illness, Deacon Steven Haywood Curry was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 1, 2013.
Steven Haywood Curry was the fourth child of the late Dea-con Raymond L. and Josephine Curry, Sr. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Arvell, William (Bill) and Louis (Ruff). He was born on September 22, 1932, in Northumberland County, Virginia. As a young boy, he attended Hygeia School in Burgess, Virginia. However, he left school to help his parents on the family farm.
On November 2, 1957, Steve married the late Florice Spratley Curry, originally from Smithfield, Virginia. Together they had one daughter, Felice. Florice preceded Steven in death in 1986.
In 1989, Steven married Mardena Armstrong.
He worked for many years in the menhaden and construction industries, until retiring in 2004.
At a young age, he joined Shiloh Baptist Church. At Shiloh, he remained a faithful and dedicated lifetime member for many years. He served in many capacities at Shiloh throughout his lifetime. He was one of the first deacons ordained by the late Rev. Dr. T. W. Morris and later, he served as the Chairman of the Deacon's Ministry, and a member of the Northern Neck Deacon's Union. He also served as a Trustee, a driver for the Shiloh Preschool, member of the Brotherhood, and various choirs. He also served on the food service committee where his gift and expertise of food preparation was enjoyed and appreciated by many people over the decades. Steven had a beautiful spirit and was a help to anyone in need. He was a true servant of God in every aspect of his life.
He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Mardena A. Curry of Heathsville, Virginia; a devoted daughter, Felice (Bill) and two grandsons, Jacob and Collin of Ewing, New Jersey; a sister, Arleda Snead of Edwardsville, Virginia; one brother, Raymond, Jr. (Mary) of Farnham, Virginia; sisters-in-law: Mary W. Curry of Raleigh, North Carolina; Rosa Curry of Calloway, Maryland; Pamela Curry of Atlanta, Georgia; and Inez Armstrong of Heathsville, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends; a very special neighbor and caretaker, Brenda Gale Loper; and a godson, William Lee of Warsaw, Virginia.
Interment services were held at the church cemetery where his honorary pall bearers were the Deacons Ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church. His pall bearers ad floral bearers were: Nephews, Nieces, Family and Friends respectively.
