Joseph Fore had two marriages the first was to Mary Brackett they where married in Henrico Co Virginia in 1769. Mary must have died young because they had no children together. In 1774 Joseph married his sound wife Ann Gividen in Buckingham Co Virginia and she is the mother of all of his known children.
Joseph had the deeds to 418 acres of land in Prince Edward Co Virginia. He got 130 acres from his father Peter Fore on the Appomattox River, the deed to that track of land stated it was next to land Joseph already owned.

Joseph was in the Rev War, he stated that he still resided in Prince Edward Co at the time of his enlistment in Feb of 1779. It was a six month tour under Capt Henry Walker, Maj. Overstreet and Col Flurney. They crossed the Dan River at Allen's Ford in North Carolina and was stationed at Salisbury where he was discharged in Sept of 1779. Upon leaving Salisbury he was entrusted with letters directed to Gen
Washington which he delivered to Col Kelso as he was directed. He also helped to feed the army by giving stores of beef to the military.

His second tour began in Feb 1781 under Capt Cunningham, Maj. Overstreet, Col Holson they all being under the command of Gen Praber Lawson. Again going to the state of North Carolina to the Battle of Guilford Court House where he was detailed as a guard of the baggage wagons and did not take part in the battle.

After the war he lived in Prince Edward Co until 1803 when he moved to Shelby Co Kentucky. In 1804 he bought 83 1/2 acres from two men named John Brenton and Jerimiah Page. In 1826 he sent his letter to his sister Keziah in New York. In 1834 he was granted his Rev War pension of 28.33 per year.

His will of March 3 1830 documents that he had 16 slaves at the time of his death. Joseph made alterations to his will. He states that Beazley who was married to his daughter Elizabeth had behaved badly and had separated from her. The executors of his estate had to put up a 7000.00 dollar bond.
Joseph Fore is the 4th and 5th great-grandfather of two Presidents of the United States of America they being George H Bush and George W Bush.

Joseph is not buried in the Shelby County Library Cemt. like many say he is. The Joseph buried there is his son Joseph Fore Jr 1776-1847. and he is listed as Joseph Fore Jr in the plot book inside the library. Joseph Fore 1744-1835 is buried in this Cemt near Cropper on the farm owned by his younger son Thomas Jefferson Fore 1803-1848.
Joseph was the son of Peter and Marie Gaudwin Foree of Manakintowne, VA. He was baptized in King William Parish, Goochland Co., VA, according to the Douglas Register. His grandparents were Peter and Judith Bingli Foree of St. Sever, Berry, France. They were Huguenots who came to Manakintowne, VA, in 1700. Joseph married Elizabeth Ann Gividen and they had 12 children born in Prince Edward Co., VA. They moved to Shelby Co., KY in 1803. Joseph was a Rev. War soldier and received a Revolutionary War Pension.
