Lois, the two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fish, residing on a portion of the River Farms tract near the dairy house at Knights Landing was drowned in an irrigation ditch, adjacent to the Fish place early this morning. The child had been directed to the ditch by a pet dog. It is believed that the dog jumped into the water and the child followed it into the small but filled stream.
Mr. Fish left for the barn near his home early this morning to do chores. A little while later Lois went out into the yard and her mother believed she had gone to the barn. Not satisfied with her baby's absence, Mrs. Fish went to the barn to see if she was there.
Instantly mother and father realized that something had happened. A moment later the house dog appeared before them shaking water from his fur. Mr. Fish rushed for the ditch and dived in. The babe was recovered instantly. There were signs of life, but every effort to revive Lois was futile. In last hope to save the little life she was rushed to the Woodland sanitarium but Lois was dead before arriving there.
The parents are beside themselves in grief over the unfortunate accident. All of Knights Landing District regrets the ultimately tragic death, for the Fishes are widely known and respected by all.
The Krellenberg Company here has charge of the funeral arrangements.
