Hugh Abel
Hugh H. Abel, 80, a longtime resident of the Plum City area, died Tuesday, October 4, 1987, at Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.

He was born June 29, 1907 in Elmwood, the son of Emil and Emma (Brahmer) Abel. He grew up in the Elmwood and Arkansaw areas.

He married Irene Schultz on April 30, 1930, at Immananuel Lutheran Church in Plum City. The couple farmed in the town of Union outside Plum City for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Norma Smith of Hager city, and Nancy Meixner of Durand; six sons, Virgil of New Richmond, Vern of Coon Rapids, Minn., Orland of Pulaski, Wis., Glen of Plum City, and Orville and Gary of Eclectic, Ala; three sisters, Blanche Doughty of Arkansaw, Gladys Hubbard of Durand, and Mabel Baker of Eau Claire; 18 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel and a sister Hazel Gasteyer.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 9, at Immanuel Luheran Church in Plum City, with the Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Plum City Union Cemetery. Rhiel's Funeral Home in Durand handled arrangements.
