Mr. Adkins was a Carter County, Tenn. native and a son of the late William McKinley and Winnie Pauline Matherly Adkins. He had lived in Lenoir for the past 18 years. He was an electrician and a Baptist.
Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Atkins; two sisters, Helen Cain and Irene Pate.
Survivors include three sons, Dexter Adkins of Elizabethton, Tenn, Eddie Adkins of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Brian Adkins of Roan Mountain, Tenn., one daughter, Angie Adkins of Mountain City, Tenn; two step-daughters, Carmella Headrick of Hickory and Vanessa Eggers of Lenoir; one stepson, John Gray of Lenoir; two brothers, Jimmy Adkins of Elizabethton and Roy Adkins of Mountain City; two sisters, Georgia Adkins of Roan Mountain nd Willa Mae Cecil of Elizabethton. *Source- The Johnson City Press, Dec. 26, 2002, Page 2
