YADKINVILLE - Sarah Louisa Shermer Todd, 94, loving mother and grandmother, of 1400 E. Lee Ave., Yadkinville, passed away early Wednesday morning, Jan. 7, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Todd was born Jan. 23, 1909, in Yadkin County to the late Daniel Edward and Sarah Jane Shore Shermer . She graduated from Yadkinville High School and earned a business degree from Draughn's Business College in Winston-Salem. Her entire life was spent as a homemaker and mother to her eight children. She was a charter member of Maplewood Baptist Church in 1992. Previously, she was an active member of Yadkinville Baptist Church, serving in many capacities, including president of the Women's Missionary Union and principal of Vacation Bible School. As a member of Yadkin Chapter No. 233 Order of the Eastern Star, she served as worthy matron. Louisa volunteered for several years at the information desk at Lula Conrad Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville. She was married in 1929 to William Dossy Todd, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1980. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Gladys Shermer Todd, Elva Shermer Hoots and Inez Shermer Colvard; her brothers, Page Edward Shermer and Simon Stanley Shermer ; and a grandson, Randal Gray Hall. Surviving are her children, Mrs. Lou Hutchens and husband Paul, Ms. Peggy Spillman, Mrs. Nellie Hall and husband Garlon, Mrs. Frieda Pepper and husband, Fred, Mrs. Gloria Long and husband Benny, William D. Todd Jr. and wife Lisa, all of Yadkinville, Mrs. Norma Johnson and husband Ronal of Clemmons, and Dr. Sandra Gianini and husband Paul of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 14 grand-children; and 13 great-grandchil-dren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville by the Rev. Richard Eskew and the Rev. Jimmy Hinson. A graveside service will follow in Yadkin Memorial Gardens, East. Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, conducted by Dr. Henry May. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service. Memorials may be made to Maplewood Baptist Church, c/o Phillip Graham, Treasurer, P.O. Box 526, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel in Winston-Salem is serving the family.
