He attended Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis achieving his MD Degree in 1964. He served his internship with the United States Public Health Service, rotating internship in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 1, 1964 - June 30, 1965. His Medical Residency was achieved through Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, LA, from Aug. 1, 1965 - June 30, 1968, including one year at Tulane Medical School. He served his gastroenterology fellowship at the National Institute of Health, Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA from July 1, 1968 - June 30, 1970. He had the opportunity to teach as a clinical instructor, physical diagnosis, L.S.U. School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA from Aug. 1968 - July 1970. Dr. Raney was Chief of Medicine at Lafayette Charity Hospital in Lafayette, LA from July 1970 - January 1971. He was with the Howard Clinic in Logansport, IN, A.P. & S. Clinic and solo practice in gastroenterology in Terre Haute, IN. He had staff privileges at Regional Hospital (Active Staff) and Union Hospital (Courtesy Staff), both of Terre Haute, Freeman-Greene County Hospital in Linton (Consulting Staff), and Vermillion County Hospital in Clinton (Courtesy Staff).
