After his mother was drown he went to East Ham to live with his grandparents Henry Moss and Kitty Kilbey.
When of age he joined the the English Marines and served aboard the HMS Procipine. he and others skipped ship in Halifax, Nova Scotia last call of port before going back to England. He hid out at the Redden house in Berwick, NS. Mrs Harriet(Hattie) Redden was Martha Louise Davis sister.That is where Frederick met Martha. He changed his name to Fred Richards after he jumped ship. He and Martha eloped to Massachusetts and he changed his name back to Frederick L. Moss. They were married in Sharon, Ma June 30, 1903 and settled in Canton, Ma.
