Judy Elaine Carter Dixon, 65, of Waycross died early Friday morning at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born in Ware County to Alvin C. Carter and Vonice Cox Carter. She had made Ware County her home for all of her life and was a 1966 graduate of Ware County High School. Mrs. Dixon worked at Baptist Village Retirement Communities and also for Satilla SBS (Unison Behavioral Health). She was an active member of Olivet Baptist Church. Judy loved the Georgia Bulldogs, racing and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Math H. Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Jobe Carter, her father, Alvin C. Carter, and a son, Morris E. Dixon, Jr.

Mrs. Dixon is survived by a daughter, Elaine Dixon Simmons and her husband Terry of Waycross, her mother, Vonice Cox Carter of Waycross, two grandchildren, John David Day, Jr., Justin Tyler Simmons, a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Price, a sister, Barbara Carter Wilson, two nephews, William Wilson and his wife Chrystal, Christopher Wilson, Sr., and his wife Mindi, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Dixon and numerous other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. The family will be receiving friends at the home of her mother at 4220 Swamp Road.
