Harvey Loyd Deering was born in Marysville, Texas on Feb. 18, 1893 to Alexander Levi Deering and Cora Parthena Burris Deering. They left Marysville and farmed and ranched in Hall Co. Texas. From there they moved to Olive New Mexico where he homesteaded with his father's family. He married Regina Stowell on July 19, 1926 in Portales, New Mexico. They lived near the Pecos River for a while close to a shallow crossing that became known as the Deering crossing to many. They later moved to Roswell, New Mexico where they ranched, rasing horses and cattle, until his death. They had one son, Harold Loyd, who was born in Elida, and died on September 17, 1927 the same day. He is buried in the cemetery at Elida, Roosevelt Co., New Mexico.

Harvey Loyd Deering was known as "Dutch" Deering to many of his friends and neighbors. He loved, horses, cattle, and dogs. Word got out that he had a soft heart for stray dogs so strays were often dropped off near his home. At one time he was feeding 26 dogs he housed in his barn. His wife, Regina, worked by his side many a day feeding cattle and horses. He passed away in Roswell, New Mexico on May, 17, 1976.

His brothers and sisters were in order of their age; Charles Decator(who died young of appendicitis), Levi Jackson(Julia NeSmith), Winnie Armstrong(Burris Weaver), John Emery(Callie Grimes), Nancy Virginia(Odis Vaughan), Sam E.(wan aho died at 12 of an accidental gunshot wound),Eva Mamie(Harrill Melton), and Willie(who died as a baby)
