Obituary 1 May 1944 , Newboro, Ontario, Canada ESTEEMED RESIDENT NEWBORO VILLAGE WIDELY MOURNED Herbert Hutchings Died on April 19 in Kingston GREAT CHURCH WORKER Masonic Rites Preceded Interment in Private Cemetery of Village Newboro, May 1 1944 On Wednesday, April 19, at the General hospital Kingston, there passed away a highly esteemed resident of Newboro in the person of Herbert Hutchings, from a; heart attack following a short illness of lockjaw. Mr. Hutchings was born on June 21, 1868, at Newboro, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Hutchings. He was the youngest of a family of 13, of which one survives, namely Mrs.Emma Hanna, of Edmonton. He lived on a farm until 17 years ago when he moved to the village of Newboro where he was engaged in bee keeping. On October 11, 1894, he was married to Miss Alberta Jane Atcheson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.' John Atcheson, of Salem. He leaves to mourn his passing- his widow, and nine children, namely, Mrs. Asa Pattemore, Delta; Earl, of Westport; Mrs. Lawrence Chant, Portland; Elijah, of Elgin; Arthur, of Hamilton; Roy, of Fort William; Don, of Toronto, Borden, of Perth Road; and Ida at home. Twenty-two grandchildren also survive. The funeral service, which was largely attended, was held from his residence to Newboro United church at 2 o'clock p.m. on Saturday, April 22, conducted by the Rev. R. F. Darke, his pastor, assisted by the Rev. A. E. Pepper, pastor of the Anglican church, Newboro, and a close neighbor of the deceased; Rev. L. S. Throop, of Delta, and Rev. G. D. Empey, of Westmeath, former pastors of Newboro United church charge. Masonic rites, under the direction of J. B. Pinkerton, of Elgin, accompanied the funeral service. Mr. Hutchings was a faithful member of the United church where he had served as a steward for many years and was also one of the trustee board. He was an active member of Simpson Lodge, No. 157, A.F. and A.M., and a member of the village council. The pallbearers were Charles Bass, Earl Cheetham, L. J. Williams, Ernest Hull, Charles Hull and Howard Thompson. Interment was made in the Hutchings Private cemetery at Newboro.
