Jessie Silas Whitley, 82, of Country Club Road, Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at his home. He was born November 26, 1930 in Wilkes County to Coy and Maggie Johnson Whitley. He was a US Army veteran. Mr. Whitley retired in 1991 after 32 years of employment in tree trimming and line clearing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, and one son-in-law, Steve Edwards.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Peggy Canter Whitley of the home; four daughters, Linda Edwards, Donna Greene and husband Phillip all of North Wilkesboro, Brenda Roten and husband Tony, Lisa Davis and husband Mike all of Wilkesboro; five grandchildren, Derek Edwards, Jennifer Demeny, Ken Johnson, Caitlin Mitchell, Austin Greene; three step-grandchildren, Chris Roten, Tony S. Roten, Matthew Davis; sixteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 15 at Oakwoods Baptist Church.
