Edna Lillian Currier, age 85, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
She was born June 18, 1928, in Elkhart, Ind., a daughter of the late John and Lillian (Hall) Miller. From a very young age, she was raised by Emanuel and Fannie Miller.
Edna's early life was spent in Brighton, Ind., where she attended Brighton High School. Most of her life was lived in the Sturgis, Fawn River and Burr Oak area.
On Aug. 31, 1947, she married John Currier at Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Burr Oak.
She retired from G.F. Business Equipment in Sturgis following several years of dedicated employment. She also had been employed by Transogram Company and Freeman Manufacturing, both in Sturgis.
She enjoyed watching birds, traveling and mushroom hunting. Edna truly loved times when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, John, who so dearly loved her for over 65 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jacob Currier; five sisters, Ethel Grady, Rosetta Abshire, Louella Maxwell, Lucinda Riggs and Clara Justice; and two brothers, John Miller and Jake Miller.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and
6-8 p.m. Friday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis and from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Saturday at Sturgis Wesleyan Church.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Edna Currier will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
In accordance with her wishes cremation will follow the service. Private burial of the ashes will take place at a later date at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
