Beverly "Bev" Manuel Dixon, 95, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, May 14, 2009 at the Lincoln Center Manor. He had been in failing health for the past two years.

He was born November 5, 1913 in Bristol, Indiana, one of six children of Alva and Flavia King Dixon. At the age of 15, he came to Connersville with his family. He attended school until he dropped out in order to help out on the family farm and to allow his siblings to continue to stay in school.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, he received an honorable discharge and returned to Connersville.

On June 30, 1952, he was married in the First Baptist Church to Gloria Short of Indianapolis. Mrs. Dixon survives.

Bev had a lifelong love and appreciation for dancing, which caused him to pursue this passion by studying dance in Hollywood. While in Hollywood, he danced in several on screen roles, including the movie, "Strike Me Pink". He later moved to Texas, where he taught dancing for a private studio.

Returning to Connersville, he and Roy Coffman started C & D Construction Company. Soon after, Bev and Gloria started the Dixon Dance Studio in Connersville. Bev and Gloria expanded their business and at one time had as many as 55 Dixon Dance Studios located throughout Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

A highlight of Bev's career was annually selecting ten dance students to tour with him throughout the Midwest, appearing at events ranging from county fairs to community shows and festivals. His students were invited to appear on a Country & Western Variety Show that was televised on WTTV-Channel 4 for several years.

He was known for his local involvement and support in the community. During the 1960's and 70's, he served as Executive Vice President of the Connersville Chamber of Commerce and assisted in several industries locating their operations in Connersville. He served on the Fayette County Free Board, he established and emceed the Fayette Count Free Fair Queen Pageant for years. Bev also served as the Spectacle Chairman for the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of Connersville and helped with the move of Ford Automotive locating their operations in Connersville.

He was a member of the House of Prayer in Lewisville, Indiana, where he taught Bible studies and was a church counselor. He loved to study the Bible. One of his greatest loves was people, as he had many friends in the community, throughout Indiana and across the United States.
