Funeral services at Pittsfield and burial in Oakwood Cemetery were conducted this afternoon for Willis Henry Groat, 56, World War veteran and native of Green Island who died Saturday at the House of Mercy, Pittsfield, after a short illness. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 15 and served for seven years. He served in the Royal Army Medical Corp and the Princess Pat Regiment during the World War. He was in France for three years and ten months and won a British War medal. He received his honorable discharge at Winchester, Eng. He was a caretaker for several years at Camp Winadu, Onota Lake and later served as WPA timekeeper.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Madeline Groat; two daughters, Inez M. and Joan M. Groat; four sons, Willis H., Jr., James E., Clifford H. and Jackie V. Groat, all of Pittsfield, one brother Clifford of Norwalk, Cal., three sisters, Mrs. Scott Coffin of Plymouth, N.H., Mrs. Madison Bonesteel of New Haven, Conn., and Mrs. Robert Valentine of Watervliet.
