Successful Race Car Driver. Was the United States Auto Club (USAC) sprint car national champion in 1991, 1992, and 1993. He quickly rose to prominence by winning his first race at the legendary Winchester Speedway, where he later lost his life, tragically terminating a 10-year career. Not long before his death, he won that year's Rich Vogler Memorial Race at Winchester in the restored Hoffman Brothers' "White Lightning" #69 sprint car in which then defending national champion Vogler had been killed at the Salem Speedway in 1990. At the time of his death, he had moved to Concord, NC and was being groomed for NASCAR competition with the help of his friend, champion driver Jeff Gordon. A memorial tree and plaque are maintained in his honor at the Indianapolis Raceway Park.
