Willis Reinhardt "Bill" Schmidt passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Via Christi Village Ridge in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 90.

He was born on February 26, 1927 in Dorrance, Kansas to the late Reinhardt and Katherine "Kate" (Milberger) Schmidt. He grew up in the Dorrance area graduating from Dorrance High School. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 serving in World War II. Following his service in the Navy he was married to Dolores "Peachie" Kasner on January 23, 1946 in Dorrance. They were blessed with three children, Timmie, John, and Debra.
After Bill's Honorable Discharge from the Navy, they spent a short time in Peachie's home town of Panora , Iowa before moving to Dorrance, where Bill began working at the Phillips 66. Later, he turned to the oilfield as a roustabout and pumper. He also enjoyed working for area farmers, and especially liked working with horses. An avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hundreds of hours hunting and bonding with son John and his dogs. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dorrance, and was the last surviving founding member of the American Legion Post #334 in Dorrance.

Bill is survived by his wife Peachie Schmidt of Dorrance, now residing in Wichita; children Timmie Teppe of Wichita, John Schmidt and wife Gale of Spring, TX, and Debbie Augustine and husband Greg of Ellis; grandchildren Scott Teppe, Jennifer Bongartz and husband Mark, Crystal Hamel and husband Bob, and Laura Augustine; and great-grandchildren Tyler Bongartz, Adam Bongartz, Gracelynn Hamel, Adalynn Hamel, Taelynn Hamel, Cortney Hamel, Tiffani Hamel, and Robert Hamel, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reinhardt and Kate Schmidt, brothers David Schmidt and Alvin Schmidt, and sisters Helen Ginther, Leona Herpel, and Edna Dumler-Kurckenberg.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, November 17, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Dorrance. Burial will follow in Dorrance City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Church or the American Legion Post #334, both of Dorrance, and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home
