WEST COLUMBIA,SC--Jonathan I. Patterson, Jr., died Sunday in West Columbia, SC, following a brief illness. He was born in Knoxville, TN, spent his early years in that area, moved to Cambridge City as a child with his parents, Jonathan I. and Nanny Bowden Patterson Sr., graduated from Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, and served with the Navy during World War II with the Seabees. He later graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science.

Jon, as his friends addressed him, was employed as a funeral director with The Meeks Mortuary for more than 37 years prior to his retirement in 1987. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Muncie where he served as a deacon for many years, Exchange Club and Lions Club, both of Muncie.

Surviving are his wife of more than 59 years, Beatrice (Butler) Patterson; two daughters, B. Elaine Hamilton (husband-Jerry) of Columbia, SC, and Nancy E. Hines (husband-Christopher) of West Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Frank Patterson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Billy, Joe, A.J., Kenneth, and James Patterson.

A memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation or the Diabetes Foundation. The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
