Tony C. Whetzel, age 63, of Petersburg, died at Grant Memorial Hospital on Saturday, July 20.

Born May 24, 1922 in Hardy County, he was the son of the late Jackson Whetzel and Virginia (Mongold) Whetzel. Two sons, two brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.

He was in the farming business and was a member of the Brake Brethren Church.

He is survived by his wife, Violet (Ketterman) Whetzel; one son, Joe Whetzel, Arthur; one daughter, Carol Bland, Burlington; one foster daughter, Janet Bible, Arthur; four sisters, Rebecca Kesner, Rough Run, Goldie Sites, Nellie Ours and Pauline Nelson, Petersburg; two brothers, Jesse Whetzel and Ira Whetzel, South Fork; two grandchildren, Jack C. Whetzel and Beckie Lynn Whetzel and one foster grandchild, Stephanie Bible.

Funeral services were held at the Brake Church on Tuesday, July 23, with the Rev. Craig Howard officiating. Burial was in the Brake Cemetery.
