SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Donald W. Allen, 66, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at Glens Falls Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born Aug. 16, 1946, in Glens Falls, N.Y., he was the son of William and June (Haskins) Allen.

Donald graduated from Queensbury High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany.

Upon leaving the Army, he joined the National Guard, where he was employed for 27 years.

On May 27, 1967, Donald married Sara "Sally" Smith at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Queensbury, N.Y.

Donald was a member of the American Legion Post No. 574 in Hudson Falls, N.Y.

Donald enjoyed woodworking, gardening, Indy Car races, traveling to the ocean and whale-watching. Most of all, Donald loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Donald was predeceased by his grandparents, William Haskins and Lillian Mullen, and William and Blanche (Webb) Allen; as well as a brother, Steven Allen; a sister, Pamela Allen; and his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Sally Allen; his parents, William and June Allen; his daughters, Nancy Hellman and her husband, Jon, of Averill Park, N.Y., and Nicole Allen and her significant other, Christopher Almy, of Utica, N.Y.; four brothers, James Allen of Tampa, Fla., Edward Allen and his wife, Elizabeth, of Queensbury, N.Y., William Allen and his wife, Toni, of Glens Falls, N.Y., and Christopher Allen of Queensbury; a sister, Cynthia Lemery of Queensbury, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Noah and Mary Hellman, and Zoey and Ava Block; a brother-in-law, Marvin Smith and his wife, Linda, of Hudson Falls, N.Y., and a sister-in-law, Nancy O'Sick of Largo, Fla.

Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. July 19, 2013, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
