Jacob John Rozenberg enlisted in the Marine Corps 18 July, 1940 from Monroe, Iowa. Qualified as a Rifle Marksman and completed recruit training at the Recruit Depot, MCB San Diego, CA. Assigned to HQ and HQ Company, Base Troops, MCB San Diego, CA. 18 November, 1940 assigned to M Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Brigade, MCB San Diego, CA.

18 January, 1941 assigned to M Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Brigade, MCB Camp Elliott, CA. 18 May, 1941 promoted to Private First Class. 12 February, 1942 assigned to M Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines (Rein). MCB Camp Elliott, CA. 9 May, 1943 promoted to Corporal. 23 July, 1942 assigned to H Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines Rein). 20 August, 1942 moved to MCB Camp Pendleton as part of the 3rd Marine Division. 17 January, 1943 promoted to Sergeant.

23 January, 1943 embarked the USS Mount Vernon (AP-22) at San Diego for movement overseas. 7 February, 1943 arrived at Auckland, New Zealand based at Cape Paerata. 29 June, 1943 embarked USS Hunter Liggett (APA-14). 6 July, 1943 landed on Guadalcanal based at Camp Tetere. During October - November 1943 Sick at Mobile Hospital # 8. During November, 1943 participated in combat operations on Bougainville until 27 December, 1943. 28 December, 1943 embarked Naval Vessel. 30 December, 1943 arrived at Camp Tetere, Guadalcanal. 1 April, 1944 assigned to G Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division.

2 June, 1944 embarked Naval Vessel. 10 June -17 July, 1944 at sea and at anchor in the Marshalls. 21 July, 1944 landed on Blue Beach Guam D-Day and participated in combat operations until 10 August, 1944. 19 August – 30 October, 1944 engaged in patrolling against Japanese Forces. 13 October, 1944 promoted to Platoon Sergeant. 6 December, 1944 promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

8 February, 1945 embarked the USS Knox (APA-46). 17 February, 1945 left the Marianas. 19 February, 1945 off shore reserves during D-Day landings at Iwo Jima. 24 February, 1945 landed Yellow Beach Iwo Jima and participated in combat operations until Killed in Action 26 February, 1945.

Next of Kin: Parents, Mr William and Mrs Margaret Rozenberg, Monroe, Iowa.

Initially buried in the 3rd Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima.

1948 returned to US for permanent burial in Oak Wood Cemetery, Pella, Iowa.
