Age 90, he was the first-born son of Freddie Dawson Griffin and Mynervie Elzate Addison Griffin (her stone has Nervie as her first name).
He was a member and Deacon of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He was a thirty-second degree Mason and 60 year member of the Caledonia Lodge F&AM #121, a member of the Cedar Valley Shrine Club and the Cattlemen's Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frederic Hobson (Bud) Griffin; a son-in-law, Leonard Meltz, Sr.; three sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include wife, Estelle Garner Griffin; a son L. Ray Griffin and daughter-in-law, Jerry Ann; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Meltz, Jenny and Gary Lester, Elaine and Joe Barton, Sherry and Richard Holloman; daughter-in-law, Mathilde Griffin; 15 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
