FANNIE SMITH
Fannie H. Smith Fannie H. Smith's earthly journey ended June 10, 2013, at her home in Tacoma, WA. Fannie's employment began with the Tacoma Public School system in 1954 as a teacher at Lister Elementary School, where she taught for seventeen years. In 1971, she worked as a Program Advisor in the Head Start/Follow-Through Program and Coordinator of the Continuity/Head Start program until she retired in 1981. Prior to accepting positions in Washington, Fannie taught for several years in elementary schools in Summerville, GA, her home place. Fannie became a Christian at a very early age and joined Allen A.M.E. Church in 1954, where she served in many roles and departments which include a Steward, Church School Teacher, Women's Missionary Society (a Life Member), Lay Organization and representative to Church Women United, and leader of the Golden Heirs Bible study. Fannie was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a member of The Matrons Club for 54 years. Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Will and Lizzie Finley Hudgins; six brothers, Kelly, Mitchel, Mose Hill, Maymon, Waymon, and Will Henry; and husband Arthur Smith. Sharing in her memory as a loving and caring Mother/ Nana are daughter Janice (Dermont) Smith, three grandsons, William, Marcus, and Joel of Federal Way, WA, a sister-in-law, Jerreldine Hudgins, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be Monday, June 17, from 4 pm - 7 pm, at New Tacoma Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Allen AME Church at 11 am.
