Edward James “E.J.” Morris, Sr

John Atchison Morris b. Pickaway Co., OH and Elizabeth "Betsy" King were married Nov 6, 1826 Fountain Co., IN. They lived on a farm near Covington. Edward James "E.J." was born to them Jan 8, 1834 Fountain Co., IN. They moved to Illinois lived there about four years, moved to Missouri, lived there about six years when John A. died. The family lived in Missouri another two years. When E.J. was sixteen, he, his mother, brothers, and sisters moved to Williamson Co., TX in 1850. E.J. grew up in the Christian Church, he studied and became a lay preacher.

E.J. farmed, and drove oxen freight teams from Williamson Co., to Houston. He married the first time Jan 21, 1857 to Mary S. Allison. They had two sons Ed. Jr. b. Nov 15, 1857 and Chriswell A. b. Aug 23, 1860.

Military Service: Pvt. Co. K 1st Yager's Texas Calvary 1st Regiment Texas Mounted Rifles Confederate States of America. Enlisted June 15, 1862 Belton, TX at 28 years of age his military record states that he is fair complexion, blue eyes and auburn hair and 6 feet tall.

He and his wife separated. His son Ed Jr. went with him and Chriswell went with his mother. E.J. returned to farming and raising stock. E.J. married a second time to Lucy Lee Hughes Felton Morris June 3, 1867.

E.J.'s mother died in Texas in 1868. E.J. moved his family to Amarillo, TX in 1891, then to Tascosa, TX purchasing the Casamiro Romero home in 1897. In 1906 E.J. sold the Tascosa place to his sons Al and Sam Morris. He and Lucy Lee moved to Dalhart, TX where he lived another fifteen years.
