WALKERTOWN - Ms. Bettie Jean Carter, 75, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1933, in Guilford County to Raymond Lavinder and Viola East Gates. She was a member of the Faith of God Assembly in Walkertown. She worked at the YMCA in Winston-Salem and was retired from Handy Pantry. She enjoyed talking on the CB radio and many know her as "Lady Be Good." She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three children, Lillian Sue (Steven) McGee of Walkertown; Kathy Ziglar of Winston-Salem; and Beauford Randal "Randy" (Lorna) Carter of King; a sister, Wanda (Ray) Wilson of Archdale; three brothers, Larry (Terry) Gates of High Point; Jerry Wayne (Pam) Gates of Lake Norman; and J.C. (Shirley) Gates of Morristown, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, with the Rev. Phillip Brande officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor' s choice. (Burroughs)
