PETER J. BARTZEN

Peter J. Bartzen, age 83, of 1903 Division St., Apt. 202, Manitowoc, died
on Monday morning, July 27, 2009, at Sacred Heart Court, Manitowoc.
Peter was born in Chicago, Ill, on Aug. 20, 1925, son of the late Albert
and Honore (Kerin) Bartzen. He was a graduate of Marquette High School in
Milwaukee, class of 1943. He attended and graduated from Marquette
University's Medical School in Milwaukee, class of 1948. Peter enlisted in
the Navy three separate times. In 1953, he became a Naval doctor and was
stationed at Cosman at the Great Lakes Naval Base. On July 12, 1947, he
married MaryAnn Pfeifer at St. Roberts Catholic Church in Shorewood, Wis.
She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2004. Peter was an obstetrician for
37 years at the Duluth Clinic LTD and St. Mary's Duluth Clinic until his
retirement. He was also an Ameritrus Trustee at the College of St.
Scholastica in Minnesota and served as president of the Board of Trustees
for a time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years MaryAnn, a
brother-in-law: James Hunt; and a sister-in-law: Terry Bartzen.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at
St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be the Rev. Gerald Foley. Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation
Center, Manitowoc, and Peter will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc. Military rites will be accorded by the AmVets Post #99.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 9 a.m. until the time of
service at 10:30 a.m. also on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Waldo Site.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & All-Care Cremation Center is assisting the Bartzen
family with funeral arrangements.
He was a beloved obstetrician, delivering 10,534 babies in his lifetime. He
was also a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. No matter where
he went, you would find him teaching, mentoring and storytelling.
Peter is also survived by his loving partner: (private)
Memorials may be made to the Rio Verde Christmas Project, 25603 Danny Lane,
Rio Verde, Ariz. 85263, a project that Peter helped start.
The Bartzen family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert
Kohl and the Cancer Care Center for their compassionate care. Also, they would
like to thank the entire staff at Felician Village, especially the wonderful
and caring people at the Court.
