Mary Ann (Pfeifer) Bartzen, born Sept. 16, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI, died Nov. 10, 2004 in Rio Verde, AZ. Mary lived her early life and was educated in Shorewood until she attended Lawrence College completing her BA at Downer College in June, 1947. She married Peter J. Bartzen Sr., shortly thereafter. When her husband completed his training in OB-GYN in June, 1954, they moved to Duluth, MN where he practiced for 34 years. She is survived by her sister, Maudie Nagle, her husband, Peter, son, Peter Jr., daughters, Christine Loveton, Gretchen Bartzen, Elizabeth Leader, Sarah Engelman, Anna Stockman and Emily Bartzen; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mary never got to use her majors in English literature and Occupational Therapy, yet she did raising a large and closely knit family. Her passion was reading history and classical literature. Class would aptly describe her legacy. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rio Verde Christmas Project, St. Dominic's Mission, 25603 Danny Lane, Rio Verde, AZ
