Jacqueline Major was born in Southhampton, England, the daughter of Major Cecil Henniker Major & Anne Gertrude Johnson Major. Because the Major would be gone for 2 year stints in the British Army on the Gold Coast of Africa, Anne moved she & her two children to Combe Down, Bath to be close to her two sisters. Jackie was primarily raised by her mother, aunts & an uncle in Combe Down. She attended Canning's Private Academy & was about to enter Bristol College in Journalism when WWII began.
She was a clerical secretary for the Bath Admiralty, & was engaged to a British flyer who lost his life during the bombing of the Dortmund, Germany Oil fields. She met her American, Vern Wagner, on a city bus on the way to a USO dance. They married in 1945, & she joined the shiploads of new British wives heading for America in 1946.
Her arrival in Craig, Colorado was a shock, but the couple followed Texaco Oil, Vern's employer, to Casper, Wyoming in 1947. They lived in Casper most of the rest of their lives, raising their two sons, John & Steve. Jackie became a legal secretary, gardened, read & enjoyed friendships with the other British wives in town, retiring in 1988. She was an active grandma, an always proper & kind woman. She is missed. Ashes are buried with Vern's in Casper, Wyoming and with her parents in Monkton Combe, Avon, England. Bio by aj wagner
