The 1910 Federal Census states that Mary Petersen had given birth to 7 children with 4 living. Ingwer Petersen's obituary states that 3 children were lost in infancy.

February 28, 1946 - The death of Mrs. Ingwer Petersen on Monday morning came as a shock to this community, where she was a lifetime resident.
In the early winter, Mrs. Petersen's health began to fail, and two weeks ago she entered the hospital at Council Bluffs, where she passed away at 8 o'clock on Monday morning, having attained the age of 68 years, 4 months and 7 days. Her condition at no time was thought critical and her family was hopeful of her recovery.
Mrs. Petersen was a home-loving woman, a kind wife and mother, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon, at 2 o'clock at Peace church. Short services will be held at the home. Interment will be made in the Walnut cemetery.
Mary Rachel Schmitt was born in Layton township, Oct. 18, 1877, the daughter of Emil and Caroline Schmitt.
She was baptized in infancy in the Christian faith.
On Feb. 22, 1899, she was united in marriage to Ingwer Petersen, at the home of her parents, north of town. Two years ago they retired from the farm and moved to Walnut.
To this union nine children were born, of whom four preceded the mother in death. She leaves besides her husband, two sons and three daughters: Herbert Petersen of Walnut, Harold Petersen of Corley, Mrs. Frank Fahrenkrog of Minden, Mrs. Theo Nieman, of Avoca, Mrs. Robert Irvin of Portland, Oregon. Also five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Hiatt of Beatrice, Neb., and Mrs. Alfred Rasmussen of Missouri Valley. (Walnut Bureau, Thursday, February 28, 1946, p. 1)
