Franklin D. Adriance Obituary

ADRIANCE - Franklin D., 82, is at this very moment happier than he has ever been in his life. He has been freed from this mortal, failing body and is now praising our great God and Savior Jesus face to face. In the words of one of Frank's favorite hymms -- "When by His grace I shall look on His face; That will be glory, be glory for me" -- Frank is now truly in glory both physically and emotionally, and we look forward to joining him.

Frank was a longtime resident of Oradell, New Jersey where he lived with his beloved wife Carolyn in a home he designed and built.

Frank and Carolyn were married for 60 years.

He is the dear father of Sharon Benson of Boiling Springs Lake, NC, Priscilla Newberry of Cottonwood, AZ, Cynthia Weisbecker of Plainsboro, NJ and Timothy Adriance of Bergenfield, NJ; grandfather of Leslie Baker, Jennifer Tyer, Patrick Newberry, Jacqueline Weisbecker, Gregory Weisbecker, John Adriance, Jeanette Adriance, and Lauren Adriance; and great-grandfather to Stephanie Baker, Jackson Tyer, and Chloe Tyer.

Frank was born February 16, 1923, and was raised in Bergenfield. He graduated from Tenafly High School and attended Bergen Junior College.

Frank served his country as a Radar Technician in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Just prior to shipping out for war, Frank's Sunday School teacher (Mr. Terhune) at Old South Presbyterian Church (Bergenfield) introduced him to a personal relationship with Jesus of Nazareth, and he gave Frank a pocket-size copy of the New Testament. That Bible was kept in Frank's uniform pocket throughout the war, and it was a constant inspiration to him. Frank was heard to say for years as he would drive past the Old South Church graveyard, "Some of the most alive people are buried in that graveyard" -- clearly a testimony to the lives of those who impacted, and shaped, Frank's way of approaching life and imparted the value of worshipping his Creator. Frank was a longtime servant of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Emerson Bible Church, where he served for years as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and the all-around person who would do whatever needed to be done and do it with a song in his heart and on his lips. Frank was a longtime and active member of the Gideons International. His love of the Bible spurred his desire to see the Word of God made available to as many people as possible. His knowledge that, "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever," inspired his faith and his actions. Frank was a man of integrity and honesty in all areas of life, which caused him to be an example for many.

Frank worked as a carpenter, but his loves and interests were as broad as his knowledge. To many, he was considered one of the smartest people they knew. But in all that Frank would do -- be it gardening, aeronautics, mathematics, bird watching, electronics, or just being a dad or grandfather -- he always found a way to marvel at God's great creation in everything and to share that joy with all present. If Frank were here writing this, he would invite you to join him in eternal life by acknowledging that Jesus of Nazareth -- who is both fully God and fully man -- died in our place as a substitute for all our wrongdoing. By conquering death by His resurrection, Jesus offers us the free, unmerited gift of eternal life when we declare to Him that He is God and Savior, and we are not.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Gideons Memorial Bible Fund (www. gideons.org) would be appreciated. The family will receive those who wish to join in remembering Frank's time here on Earth and celebrate his eternal life by visiting at the Volk Leber Funeral Home in Oradell, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM (a service of remembrance will be 8 PM). Funeral Service Saturday 10 AM at the funeral home.

Interment to follow at the Pascack Reformed Church Cemetery in Park Ridge.
