The son of Timothy W. and Susan (Ray) Wellington. As his mother died in 1847 her death most likely occurred shortly after giving birth to George.
George was 16 years of age and a Clerk from Worcester, MA, when he enlisted on December 2, 1863 and was mustered into service on December 7th. Taken prisoner at Plymouth, NC on April 10, 1864, George was one of the youngest to die at Andersonville. He had just turned 17 when he succumbed to the effects of Scorbutus on August 10, 1864.
