Herschell married Gerry Hightower on September 15, 1961. He attended Jefferson St. Church of Christ. He served in the Army from 1942 thru 1946, during which he earned a purple heart and a Bronze Star. Herschell was a golfer, avid reader, especially enjoyed history books. He had a positive attitude. His favorite saying was "whatever will be will be." He was employed with Phillips Oil Company for over 40 years. Herschell was a life member of VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by two brothers, Charles Hightower and wife, Janet, of Roswell, and Jerry Hightower of Kingman, AZ; two sisters, Dorothy Landgren, of Stanford, TX, and Jackie Stanfield, of Hobbs; a daughter-in-law, Jean of Whitney, TX and several nieces and nephews who were very special to Herschell.
Herschell is preceded in death by his wife Gerry, who passed away on March 3, 1999, parents Loyd, and Martha Hightower, a sister Patricia Poucket and a step-son, Don.
Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope funeral Home.
