Grace Ballard was a distinguished lawyer from Nebraska and lived in the state most of her life. She graduated from Blair High School and received her degree at Dana College in 1904. She was a student at the University of Nebraska College of Law from 1911 to 1914 where she was president of the senior class.

She played a prominent role in the Woman's Suffrage campaign in Pennsylvania and New York in 1915 and carried on the same work in Iowa and Nebraska the following year.

She began practicing law in 1918 and served as county attorney of Washington County from 1918 to 1922. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, chaired the local Red Cross at Blair, and held membership in the Methodist Church. She was affiliated with the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of Founders and Patriots, and the Nebraskan Society.
