Stephen R. Hanna, 69, of Mattapoisett passed away unexpectedly of leukemia on August 31, 2010 at Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.
Born in Malone, New York on September 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Elizabeth M. (Mason) Hanna. He was married to Nancy Walker Hanna with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.

He was a graduate of Franklin Academy and attained Eagle Scout ranking as a teenager. He graduated from Norwich University as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was commissioned to the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Captain and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars for Valor as well as other military honors. He went on to work for the truck manufacturing company, Mack Trucks, as a service engineer for many years. During his years of semi-retirement, he went on to found H & H Associates, a regional commercial vehicle and truck parts company based here in Mattapoisett.

In addition to many professional affiliations and memberships, he was a member of the American Legion Florence Eastman Post 280 and the Disabled American Veterans Dr. C.E. Burt Chapter 7. He was an active board member for the Mattapoisett Council on Aging. He recently finished an extensive research project on a early 19th century water delivery wagon for the Mattapoisett Historical Society as part of the Mattapoisett 100 years Celebration.

Survivors include his wife; his 5 children, Deborah Hanna and Kevin Garrett of New York City, Robert Hanna, Jr., M.D. and his wife Dee of Easton, MD, Kelly Hanna-Sen and her husband Nilanjan of Queens, NY, Michael Hanna and his wife Christine of Northampton, MA and Kristen Hanna of Providence, RI; a sister, Mary Edgar of Port Orange, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Sofia and Rohan and his cousin Ernest Mason of Plattsburg, NY.

He was the brother of the late John Hanna who is survived by his wife Beth.

His family will receive guests on Saturday, September 11th from 12 Noon - 3 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett. There will be a military honors service at the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne on Friday, September 10th at 2:45 PM followed by a private family service at Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett.
