- Laurence Rawlins Guthrie [1881-1974]
- Mary Cornelia (Tuthill) Guthrie [1885-1972]

The Washington Post - July 16, 2013

Passed away peacefully at home July 13, 2013. She was born in 1921 to the late Laurence Rawlins and Mary Tuthill Guthrie in Miami, Oklahoma. They moved around in her early years as her father became pastor of several churches and she became big sister and mother's helper to her five younger siblings.

They later moved to Maryland and Rosemary graduated from Poolesville High School. She put herself through college with scholarships and graduated from University of Maryland in 1947 with a degree in biology.

After graduation she went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and retired from there after 33 years. In the early 1960's, she took a class in FORTRAN and became a computer programmer for the USDA; compiling data for numerically intensive research projects. During these years she founded an Archery Club, took flying lessons at historic College Park Airport, was a member of Eastern Star and volunteered at Berwyn Presbyterian Church. She lovingly supported and cared for her parents in the last years of their lives.

After retirement from the USDA; she traveled throughout Europe, volunteered with Meals-On-Wheels and was a founding member of a ladies golf club. Although she had many talented cats that played Scrabble and crosswords, her beloved Rexie, a Bedlington Terrier, was her favorite pet. She often said he was the star of dog-training class and could tell time (always knowing when it was 4 p.m. and time for their walk).

She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: James Allen, David Veatch and William Robert Guthrie; and niece Rebecca Lynn Guthrie.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Elsie Olive Cobun, and brothers, Donald Francis Guthrie (Janet) and Ronald Tuthill Guthrie (Leverne). She was also the beloved "Aunt Rosemary" to her 10 nieces and nephews, 10 grand-nieces and nephews and eight greats.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Friends House, Sandy Spring, Md., for the love and support she received in the past few years. A graveside service will be held at Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, Md. at a later date.
