OPE - Funeral services for Leola Sparkman Pope, 84, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. South, with Dr. Terry N. Collins of Southpoint Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Pope was born in Jacksonville on October 10, 1917. Her parents were some of the early residents of the old Mandarin area. Mrs. Pope was a member of Southpoint Baptist Church and died Friday, August 9, 2002 in Jacksonville. Survivors include her sisterinlaw, Patsy Sparkman of Jacksonville; nieces and nephews, Gregory Webb of Oak Grove, Missouri, Don Sparkman of Atlanta, April Sparkman of Charleston, S.C., Bill Pope of Newport News, Va., Jim Pope and Alice Kirkland, both of Jacksonville; several great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
