Coroner: Family died of smoke, soot inhalation. A Goshen mother and her two young children died of "smoke and soot inhalation" after their home caught fire, autopsies Friday showed, according to Elkhart County Coroner John White. The body of Kimberly Love, 34, was found in a breakfast nook off the kitchen, while her 3-year-old son Kristian Love and 11-month-old daughter Kiana Love were found in a bedroom, White said. Kristian also had some heat injuries, White said. An unattended kerosene space heater in a child's bedroom started the house fire, authorities said. A passer-by spotted smoke coming from the house at 720 W. Pike St. and reported the fire about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The blaze was extinguished quickly, Fire Chief Dan Sink said. Love was the mother of four older children who were in school at the time of the fire, police said. The house was divided into two apartments. Those killed lived in the front apartment, Sink said. Representatives of Life Spring Church, 116 S. Third St., Goshen, recently announced that they will be accepting monetary donations as a way to help fund the funeral expenses of the Love family, who were past members of the church. According to Tracy Buller, a pastor at Life Spring Church, the funds raised through donations will also go toward supporting Love's four remaining children. "Kim Love and her kids had been attending here for the last few months, and we've gotten to know them really well," Buller said, adding that Love was well known by church members as being active in helping and serving not only the church but the community as a whole. "We at Life Spring want to be a place where people can send donations to help with the funeral expenses as well as support for the kids," Buller said. "What's really needed is financial support, because these kids have nothing." Buller indicated those wishing to contribute can drop off donations at the church, 116 S. Third St., or they can call for more information at 304-0038. Members of Grace Community Church have also stepped in to help by setting up a donation account at Farm Bureau Credit Union - coined the Kimberly Love and Children Memorial Account - to allow for people to make monetary donations in support of the Love family. Funeral arrangements for the three family members are pending at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen.
