Sidney was the son of George William Rhodes and Harriet (Holden) Rhodes. Born about 1835, he is listed in the Civil War Draft Registration Records (1863-1865) in Troy, Crawford, Pennsylvania (listed as Rhodes, G. Sidney, age 28, farmer, married. This is the last found record of his whereabouts. George William Rhodes leaves $1 to each of Sidney's children in his will.

Sidney Rhodes had 2 sons with his first wife, Sarah (Backus) Rhodes - John Wesley Rhodes and Frank F. Rhodes. You will find Sarah, John and Frank on the 1855 New York State Census for Cold Spring, living with the James and Abigail Backus Family. Sarah was the daughter of James and Abigail Backus.

By 1860, Sidney is living in Troy, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Listed in Household, Sidney, Angeline, John (age 5) and Frank (age 4).

Sidney had 2 sons with Angeline (Altenburg) Rhodes - George Lincoln Rhodes (b 1860) and Peter S. Rhodes (b 1863).

By 1870 Angeline is listed as widowed, living in Troy with sons George and Peter - last name listed on census record is her maiden name, Altenburg. (Angeline will use the name Rhodes on all subsequent census and directory records.)

In 1870 Son Frank is living with his grandparents, George William and Harriet (Holden) Rhodes.

Sidney's oldest son, John Wesley Rhodes, cannot be found again until 1880 - living with his uncle, William A. Backus, in Carrollton, Cattaraugus, New York.
