Erected on November 11, 1993, the mounment is dedicated to the 11,500 women of the United States who served in the Vietnam War, most of whom were nurses. Part of the Vietnam War Memorial, it the serves as a reminder of the importance of women in the conflict and is the first the memorial placed in the nation's capital honoring women's military service.
