Roberta Clara Porter, 63, passed on March 27, 2003. Mrs. Porter was born in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late James Smith Sr. and Martha Brown. She was a longtime member of Trinity Temple Church where she served as Evangelist. She was lovingly known to family and friends as "Sweetie Pie."
She is survived by son, Horace Anderson Jr. and wife Crystal of Chesapeake; son, Reginald Anderson and wife Betty of Raleigh, N.C.; adopted daughter, Angela Taylor of Chesapeake; sisters, Eunice Vaughn of Broomfield, Colo., Janice Roane and husband Andrew of Richmond; adopted sister, Ella Sue Brown of Baltimore, Md.; brother, James Smith Jr. and wife Cynthia of Norfolk; longtime special friends, Bishop Benjamin Adamson Jr. of Portsmouth and Mrs. Chris Capehart of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Brian Anderson of Jacksonville, N.C., Deon Anderson of Raleigh, Diamond Anderson, Christy Anderson and Timothy Anderson, all of Portsmouth, Ambher Anderson and Grae Anderson, both of Chesapeake; and adopted grandson, Tori Terry of Chesapeake. She is also survived by nephews, Tony Vaughn and wife Alice of Chesapeake, Emmanuel Najeeulah and wife Sabrina of Broomfield; niece, Leverne Hunt of Portsmouth; and stepmother, Daisy Smith of Norfolk. She will also be greatly missed by a host of great-nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Temple Church on Graham Street in Portsmouth by Bishop Benjamin Adamson Jr. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin Tuesday afternoon at Rogers Funeral Home, 2200 Deep Creek Blvd., in Portsmouth. Family will receive friends at Trinity Temple following interment.
