Memorial services for Charles Andrew Horton, age 76, of Rusk are scheduled for noon Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jan Pate officiating.

Mr. Horton died early Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013, in a Jacksonville hospital. He was born July 16, 1936, in Franklin to the late Albert and Leila Horton. Mr. Horton was a resident of Rusk for 28 years. He spent the majority of his professional life as an educator where he was the principal of Jones Elementary, Quail Valley Elementary, Briar Gate Elementary, all of Missouri City, and finally Rusk Elementary School where he retired. He then spent his remaining years in real estate. He had many years of civic service including mayor of Rusk, president of the Lions Club, Rusk Industrial Foundation, TEA Accreditation Team, president of the board of Cherokee County Realtors and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rusk Chamber of Commerce. His proudest achievement however was a long, fulfilled life with his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Horton; sister, Sadie Gilley; and oldest son, Mark Horton.
