"Julia's husband, Michael Anagnos, is buried in his native village of Papigo near Epirus, Greece. Michael emigrated to the U.S. in 1868 as an assistant to Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe, and eventually married Howe's daughter Julia Romana. Later he became famous as the director of the Perkins Institute for the Blind, and was instrumental in making education available to hundreds of blind and deaf-blind people. Annie Sullivan, Helen Keller's lifelong teacher and friend, was trained at Perkins. Michael was born in Papingo on November 7, 1837 and died in Turn Severin, Romania, on June 29, 1906 while on a European tour. It was decided to bury him in the family plot rather than bring his body back to the U.S."
