Harry Leroy Almes, 88, of Blairsville, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at home. Born Aug. 11, 1924, in Mars, he was a son of the late Harry L. Almes Sr. and Anna Deborah (Shirley) Almes Lyons. Harry lived in the Saltsburg and Indiana areas all of his life, and worked several different jobs throughout his career. He was mainly a self-employed homebuilder, retiring in 1972, and part-owner of the J and M Sporting Goods Store in Indiana, Pa., in the '70s, and former owner of the Coral Graceton Tavern. Harry was a member of the Indiana Home Builders Association and loved working in his garden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Almes. Harry is survived by his wife of 70 years, Muriel A. "Pat" (Lasher) Almes; sons, Michael L. (Patricia) Almes, of Blairsville, and Willard T. (Charlotte) Almes, of Saltsburg; daughter, Gwendolyn I. (Robert) Peiffer, of Indiana, Pa.; stepdaughter, Sandra Elaine (Ronald) Stobert, of Saxonburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah (Paul) Miller, of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received Sunday, July 14, 2013, in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 701 Salt St., Saltsburg. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. Glenn V. Propst and the Rev. Thomas C. Spiker presiding.
