Mary was born in Tennessee on July 24 , 1847 . She married (Rev.) William H . McKinney January 10 , 1864 according to Marriage Book 5 , page 343 of Itawamba county , Mississippi . Rev. McKinney was listed as W. H. McKinney and Mary was listed as Mary Thomas . Mary and William McKinney's children were Booker W. McKinney who first married Icie E. Gregory and then after her death next married Thelia Gardner ; Violet McKinney who died as a child , Rufus McKinney who married Floy Stockton , Martha McKinney who died as a child , and Rothsura Dora McKinney Shumpert who married John Houston Shumpert . Sometime after Mary's husband Rev. William H. McKinney died in 1888 , Mary married again and she became known as Mary Stockton . However by 1900 according to the census she was a widow again listed as the head of the household with her second husband's last name of Stockton . William H. McKinney and Mary's son Rufus was also listed in that household in 1900 in Lee County , Mississippi with Mary , but he was listed with her last name of Stockton instead of his last name of McKinney . Those two individuals , Mary and her son Rufus were the only two listed in that household in 1900 . Mary was listed as a widow on that 1900 census . The 1910 census for her son Rufus and his wife Floy did include in the household a William Stockton and a Mary Stockton but that couple was identified as Rufus father-in-law and mother-in-law .( Floy's father and mother were William and Amanda Stockton . Apparently Amanda died sometime after Floy was born in 1892 and before the 1900 census in which Floy and her father and siblings were listed in Texas with an older brother of hers and his wife . ) Mary Thomas McKinney Stockton died April 23, 1935 in Lee County , Mississippi .
