Paul Charles Ley, age 86 of Athens died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Mill Run Gardens Care Center, Columbus. Born Dec. 18, 1925 in Chauncey, he was the son of the late John Jacob & Opal Marie Syx Ley. A 1943 graduate of Chauncey-Dover High School and a 1950 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, he was employed with International Harvester in Columbus and retired from McBees Corp. as accounting manager after thirty one years of service. He was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, serving as Past President of the Parish Council, Knights of Columbus Council 1716, and K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion all of Athens. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS L.S.M. 77 during the battle of Okinawa. Paul is survived by two daughters- Catherine Ann Ley of Dayton and Karen Elizabeth Ley Wild of Louisville, Ky.; a son, David (Sherry) Ley of London, Ohio; three grandchildren- Elizabeth Marie Wild, Paul Michael Ley and James Patrick Ley; a sister, Patricia (John) Evans of Granville; two brothers, James Ley of Reynoldsburg and Richard (Barbara) Ley of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty four years, Christina Beckley Ley, who died March 7th; two sisters- Helen Roberts and JoAnna Wagner; and a brother, John Jack Ley.
