Nathaniel was born in Pensacola, Fla., and was the son of the late Willie and Mary (Hayes) Garner. He worked as a factory worker for Pratt & Whitney for several years. Nate served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church, Meriden, where he was a member of the Male Chorus and the Big 7. Nate, a sharp dressed man, die-hard Yankees fan, who loved to travel and was known to have a good sense of humor. Nate was a talented musician, carpenter and fisherman.
Nate is survived by his beloved wife, Pearline Garner, of New Britain, his brother, Willie Garner and his wife, Sylvia, his sister, Pat Reese, all of Pensacola, Fla.; his six grandchildren, Eddie, Tyrone, Stephanie, Eric, LaDwan and Sharika; his special cousin, Mary Thomas, of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Nate was predeceased by his two daughters, Thelma Aiken and Felicia Pitts.
Home going celebration for Nate will be held Friday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden, with the Rev. Dr. Willie J. Young, Pastor, presiding. Burial with full military honors will be in the Veterans Spousal Section of Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain. The American flag will be presented to Nate's wife, Pearline. Relatives and friends may call at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Flowers will be accepted at the church Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Service of comfort provided by the Paul A.
