Ellisville Man Killed In Action

Ellisville, Jan. 20 - (Special) - Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stevenson, who live near here, received a telegram from the war department Thursday, stating that their son, Cpl. Harold D. Stevenson, was killed in action Dec. 20 in Belgium. No other information was given in the message.

Cpl. Stevenson was born in Cass Township, Oct. 18, 1921. He graduated from Ellisville High School in 1940 and attended God's Bible school in Ohio for one year, studying for the ministry. He later attended Olivet Nazarene college for two and one-half years during which time he was pastor of a church in Sidney, Ill. He became a licensed minister of the Church of the Nazarene in 1941.

In Service Two Years

Cpl. Stevenson entered service in February, 1943, and had been overseas since, Aug. 12, 1943, serving with a paratrooper unit. He received his basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas, and Fort Benning, Ga. He had received the Order of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Italy in February and after being sent to a rest camp was stationed in England. He landed in Holland with the 82nd Airborne division Sept. 17, and helped hold the Nijmegen bridgehead for several days.

Surviving besides his parents are one sister, Mrs. Sherman Hunter of Cuba. A number of relatives also survive.

Corporal Stevenson was a member of the 82nd Airborne, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Co. C. KIA.
